The McClelland Gallery was established in 1971 under the terms of the Will of Annie May (Nan) McClelland in honour of her brother Harry McClelland, an artist and philanthropist who owned the property and played an instrumental role in the development of the arts community in Victoria. Harry's studio is still to be found in the grounds of the McClelland Gallery+Sculpture Park, which apart from the gallery complex, houses the community art groups of the McClelland Guild of Artists, the McClelland Spinners and Weavers, The Peninsula Woodturners Guild and the Frankston and Peninsula Lapidary Club.
